Single Review – Eyes of Home ‘Name for Yourself’

Scottish indie rockers, Eyes of Home released their new single ‘Name for Yourself’ back in April, let’s take a dive head first in to the new track and see what it’s all about.

This is an energetic and driving song that instantly grabs your attention with it’s super powerful beat and intense instrumentation. It blends elements of alternative rock with a dynamic mix, that keeps you hooked from start to finish. Lead vocalist and frontman Shaun Lieshman delivers the lyrics with raw emotion, that portrays a sense of pain, struggle and a desire for recognition.

The lyrics tell a story of feeling trapped, and the internal conflict of wanting to break free. Phrases like “million on a color wheel” and “on a string of a puppeteer” paint a vivid picture of feeling controlled and questioning your own decisions.

The recurring beat in the chorus adds a layer of intensity, that grabs you by the ear holes and commands your attention. I really enjoy the catchy riff and cleverly placed layers in this track, particularly the use of guitar layering in the chorus with the main riff continuing but then a high pitch lick which keeps you interested.

The song’s structure is very well-crafted, with a dramatic introduction, engaging verses, and a bridge that builds excitement. The black and white aesthetic of the music video along with the acting and the story they are trying to convey, really grabs you. I felt like I was watching clips from a movie where this song was on the soundtrack. Very clever and well thought out.

This single and the bands general sound and vibe remind me of the ‘The Killers’ early stuff, if they were mashed with the band ‘White Lies’, but with a modern and refreshing twist.

Overall ‘Name for Yourself’ is one of those tracks that will become a major hit for the band from their back catalogue once they hit the big time. They certainly have the sound, style, image and talent to do big big things, and for a wee band from Edinburgh, that is certainly worth supporting. You can catch them live at Belladrum Festival on 1st August and then supporting Ample House as part of King Tuts Summer Night Festival in Glasgow on the 8th of August.

Go give this track a listen and see for yourself!
