Fringe Review – Back in Business – 4/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Words: Clíona McCann

Georgia Tasda: Back in Business is a delightfully foul hour of spreadsheets, pie charts, musical numbers and general tomfoolery. After a 5-year break, the monstrous business mogul has returned ready to share all her tricks of the trade- but this isn’t just your average business seminar. This is a Georgia Tasda business seminar.

Georgia Tasda on first glance is equal parts off-putting and iconic. She warmly welcomes you to the show looking like an insane punk clown with a ghostly white complexion, mismatched coloured contacts and blacked out teeth. Her costume and makeup are impressively deceiving; although her intense look lends itself excellently to the absurdity of the show, the very last thing you expect from Georgia is a bubbly personality and sheer silliness. She is an endlessly engaging performer who is very difficult to dislike.

Chock full of deliciously awful one-liners and tongue-in-cheek puns, this show had me groaning in the best way possible. With a knowing wink and a nudge, Georgia Tasda draws on classic drag lip sync numbers, surreal Monty Python-esque gags and good old fashioned toilet humour, creating a distinct comedic style. ‘Back in Business’ is easily the wackiest and most enjoyable business meeting you could ever attend. While others left with various company stakes and shares (literal pictures of steaks and Cher) I left the show with a full little plastic bag, complete with dog poo made from her own home-baked malt loaf.
