I’m not usually one to delve into the hip-hop/rap styles of music but Scottish artist Jay-Lee Miller may have made me reconsider my stance with his fire-cracker of a single ‘All Or Nothing’ featuring Jam Harvie.
From the very start to the very end, each note is a metaphorical slap in the face. It’s impossible not to be bopping along and mouthing along to each word that flows so smoothly from Jay-Lee’s mouth. The thumping bass lines really add sustenance to the song, helping to turn it from something good into something even better with every slight change of pace ensuring that the tune is an absolute earworm even after it’s concluded.
Like every good rap song, ‘All Or Nothing’ feels like an honest reflection of life. I was smitten with the slight cockiness of the lyrics “never playing by the rules cause we came here to change the game / there’s only one choice canny lose but win”. The Glaswegian knows exactly what he’s doing by making a song like this. It’s bold, fun and in a world where everything feels a bit too much sometimes, the powerful message behind it reminds us, to remember exactly what we’re worth. Intertwined with Harvie’s verses, ‘All Or Nothing’ lends itself to being a fast-paced delight that blew me away upon first listen.
With a sound similar to fellow Scot and underground legend Loki and accompanied by the music video that acts as a touching homage to his hometown, Jay-Lee Miller proves that he’s got a bright future ahead of him with his tune ‘All Or Nothing’.
Hi most recent single ‘Cold Stare’ is also an absolute banger, you can listen to them all over on his Spotify!
