Words: Kenny Ross
Here we go! Bearded Theory 2026 is rolling into Catton Park from 20–24 May, and with Glastonbury taking a wee nap this year, it feels like Bearded Theory has casually stepped forward and gone, we’ll handle festival season, cheers!! The line up alone backs that confidence: Pixies celebrating their 40th year off punk brilliance, Skunk Anansie doing what only Skunk Anansie can do (last seen them in the early 2000’s…man I feel old!), and then Garbage joining the top tier ranks to round out a trio of heavy hitters that look suspiciously like someone raided your favourite record shop from the past.

The rest of the bill lands somewhere between a punk street party and a strange spiritual experience…stay with me…. You’ve got Big Special, Fat Dog, Ferocious Dog, Lambrini Girls, Panic Shack, Sprints, and Reverend and the Makers, all serving the kind of chaotic, madness that makes you regret wearing your best boots (or white trainers). Add in the mix, Everything Everything, The Horrors, The Twilight Sad, and Ozric Tentacles and you’ve got a beautifully messy palette of arty-ish rock, gloom, cosmic shit, and “are we still on Earth?” vibes. Then just as the guitars stop melting your face, A Guy Called Gerald steps into acid house your soul back together (yep, been on YouTube and seen the madness).

But Bearded Theory isn’t just about volume. The festival has its own strange magic — a proper DIY, grassroots, alternative heart still beating loudly in 2026. Stewart Lee is back again, apparently unable to resist an event he once described as “refreshingly egalitarian (again, not sure what this word is) compared to the middle class sprawl of modern festivals” (it’s legit, google it). There’s also the beloved Woodland Stage (ahh, fond memories of last year), which transforms at night into an acoustic, slightly emotional singalong den, and the annual Foolhardy Takeover curated by Beans on Toast, featuring Katacombs, K.O.G Soundsystem, Mr Bruce, Nuala & Tankus and others, hand picked for maximum joyful chaos, and don’t forget the mood lighting.

For those who like their nights long, legs tired and senses blurry, festival veterans Utah Saints, Leeroy Thornhill (ex Prodigy), and Phil Hartnoll of Orbital are locked in for the late night electronic carnage. You’ll be dancing whether you meant to or not. (Drinking may help this if you are struggling)…disclaimer – know your limits…also this has been noted for myself.
The food last year was insane, can’t wait to see what they bring this year. Of course, this is Bearded Theory, so the wholesome bits sit proudly beside the debauchery. EARTH is returning with pottery, crafting, workshops, and enough calm energy to make you feel like a well-adjusted adult for at least fifteen minutes. The Sauna Box — a wood fired sauna plus a cold plunge (hangover cure maybe?) —this is also back for anyone looking to punish or cleanse themselves between sets.

Accommodation wise, the festival is adding The Junkyard, a new boutique village of gleaming retro Airstream trailers that come with plush beds and private showers (yes please). It’s luxurious enough that you could watch The Pixies without smelling like you camped a day in your life! These options are already selling out, which is no surprise. (No, I don’t get commission!). And because Bearded Theory stubbornly refuses to be anything other than charming, the Festival School is expanding — kids can attend proper lessons on site without missing their education, and a brand new pre- school for ages 0–4 is being added. Imagine toddlers headbanging to the Wildhearts; that alone is worth the ticket, no?

Overall, Bearded Theory 2026 looks like an alt rock pilgrimage wrapped in punk-ish spirit, community warmth, and just enough weirdness to keep things interesting. It’s loud, it’s honest, and it hasn’t sold its soul to artisan sushi stands or pish posh coffee. If you’re into real music, real people, and real good times, this one’s shaping up to be an absolute belter.
Personally, I am looking forward to this after last year’s festival, definitely up there with the best festivals to go to this year (in my opinion).
Go get your tickets now, you won’t regret it!
